讲座题目：Sustainable Energy Development for Energy and Steel Industries
摘要：This Seminar presents research activities and development studies of CO2 capture, utilization and storage (CUCS) technology for of sustainable energy and steel industries in the Queensland University. The studies aim to develop new processes to produce clean energy and reduce the CO2 emission by converting CO2 from industrial flue gas using technology such as gas-to-liquid (GTL) fuel (ethanol). The seminar summarizes results from the studies recently carried out at the University of Queensland including both experimental investigations and numerical simulations on
· CO2 Capture with Membrane
· CO2 Capture with CO2 Adsorbing Materials (CAMs)
· Convert flue gas to liquid fuel (GTL)
· CO2 Utilization/conversion
It discusses the feasibility and potential of CCUS as a mitigation option for the power and steel industries, and analyses the current technology readiness level of CO2 capture, utilization and storage techniques and the early deployments opportunities for applying CCUS technology in power and steel industries. The talk will further discuss opportunity using the CO2 conversion technology as effective means of energy-saving and CO2 emissions reducing, especially for large-scale and high intensity point emissions such as iron- and steel-making process. It further shows attractive potentials to apply CO2 conversion technology to the flue gases to produce clean energy and reduce CO2 emission in ironmaking as an example.

Research expertise and interests:
• Modelling and simulation - Numerical models for fluid flow, heat and mass transfer in various chemical reactors and porous media, such as pulverized coal injection (PCI) to blast furnace, coal reservoir simulation, gas separation through membrane etc.
• Clean coal technologies – hydrogen production through lower emission coal combustion, syngas/biogasbased Gas-to-Liquid fuel, underground coal gasification etc.
• Clean energy and environmental applications - Coalbed methane (CBM) recovery, CO2 capture through advanced membranes and nano-functioned CaO sorbents, CO2 conversion and utilization, CO2 storage via geo-sequestration into coals (CO2-enhanced CBM).
• Advanced ironmaking and steelmaking – blast furnace ironmaking with low-grade iron ore, grain refining for steels, inclusion control for clean steel etc.
Major achievements and awards
Professor Geoff Wang has contributed over 120 journal publications, 2 patents and many plenary/keynote/invited presentations, which have been received more than 500 citations in the last 10 years. He has succeeded in winning a number of competitive grants, including 8 Australian Research Council (ARC) grants and many other research projects from various sources. Geoff has won some prestigious Fellowships/Awards, e.g. the Queensland International Fellowship 2010, Australian-China Young Scientist Exchange Program awards 2011, and UQ EAIT Research, Innovation and Supervision Awards (Internationalisation) 2012.
王国雄, 澳大利亚昆士兰大学化工学院教授，昆士兰大学工程及建筑设计和电子、信息学部科研与合作 （中国区）主任，宝钢-澳大利亚联合研发中心执行主任。1989 年毕业于东北大学获博士学位后就职于武汉科技大学讲师、副教授,曾任中国金属学会炼铁学会理事。1995 年2 月澳大利亚新南威尔大学访问教， 1996 年12 月加入昆士兰大学。主要从事化工、冶金能源及环境方面的开发与研究工作，包括煤(气)转化和煤层气开发与利用、二氧化碳减排、冶金新技术开发、及相关的数值模拟和模型、软件开发。王国雄教授已出版专著（高炉煤粉喷吹技术）一部，在各类国际期刊杂志发表论文120 余篇,会议论文近100 篇, 以及2 项专利技术。除与东北大学，中南大学和武汉科技大学在冶金材料和冶金节能减排领域合作外，他还长期与中国矿业大学(徐州)/西安交通大学/河南理工大学在煤和煤层气开发利用及二氧化碳减排与存储科学研究领域建立了广泛的合作, 被分别聘为中国矿业大学客座教授，及东北大学和河南理工大学的兼职教授。
最近几年, 王国雄教授通过宝钢-澳大利亚联合研发中心成功地与中国大型工业企业开展了约40 个项目的合作, 获得工业企业直接的研发投资超过2,000 万澳元, 以及澳洲联邦政府和昆士兰地方政府配套的研发基金近800 万澳元。
